Homeowner’s Insurance DOES NOT cover termite damage!

According to terminix.com, “Termites are serious business for property owners, causing an estimated $2.5 billion in property damages and repair costs annually – that’s more than the cost incurred from fires or windstorms combined.”

Termites are difficult to detect. Petri’s Positive Pest Control in Wellington, Florida, states, “A large percentage of the average home can’t be seen. In between walls, behind baseboards and in areas of an attic or crawl space are all hidden areas that termites can be harboring.”

The problem is that extensive damage can occur before people notice the problem.

Waiting until there are signs of damage in a home could be dangerous. Homeowners should hire a pest control professional, trained to check for signs of termite activity, to inspect their home annually.

In addition, some pest control companies, including Petri’s, state that even the most thorough inspection does not always reveal the evidence that a home has termites and does not fully guarantee absence of termites.

To ensure peace of mind, have a pest control professional perform a preventative termite treatment.

Pre-Treating for Termites During a Room Addition / Home Improvement

When adding to a home, make sure that the new slab also has a horizontal spray and then a vertical spray to block termites.

If your home has termites, do not make any structural repairs without consulting a general contractor and a structural engineer. Professional advice ensures the structural integrity of a home.
